Cyprus has recorded the highest levels of employee burnout in Europe, with new data showing elevated rates of both physical and emotional exhaustion among workers compared with the rest of the continent.
Burnout — a state of persistent physical and mental fatigue linked to long‑term workplace stress — typically shows up as exhaustion, reduced motivation, and a sense of being unable to cope with daily demands.
Findings from Eurofound’s 2024 European Working Conditions Survey show that nearly 44 percent of workers in Cyprus feel physically exhausted at the end of the working day — the highest rate among the 35 countries surveyed. In contrast, levels are far lower elsewhere, including 18 percent in the Netherlands.
Separate research from Gallup has also placed Cyprus among the most stressed workforces in Europe, reinforcing the picture of a labour market under sustained pressure.
