Cyprus generated more food waste per person than any other European Union country in 2024, according to Eurostat data.
Cyprus produced 295 kilograms (650 pounds) of food waste per person that year, compared with an EU average of 129 kilograms (284 pounds).
Restaurants and catering services in Cyprus also exceeded the EU average, producing 34 kilograms (75 pounds) per person against 15 kilograms (33 pounds) across the bloc.
