Cyprus to make partial payout to victims of 2013 bank deposit levy

Victims of the 2013 financial crisis in Cyprus, whose bank deposits were cut, are to receive a partial payment.

The newspaper Politis reported that a National Solidarity Fund had been set up for people who held more than a certain amount in Laiki Bank and the Bank of Cyprus and lost the money in the crisis. It said 28.7 million euros in compensation would be paid to victims through the fund.

The paper recalled that a partial payment was also made last year, when 44.36 million euros was paid to 4,524 people.

According to the report, the finance ministry has drawn up the budget for the payout, and it is due to be discussed today by the House Economy Committee.
