Cyprus has recorded the highest May inflow of water into its dams in four decades.
According to the newspaper Fileleftheros, data from the Water Development Department show that as of May 19, a total of 9.6 million cubic meters of water had flowed into the reservoirs — the highest May figure in recent years.
The report says dams collected 35.4 million cubic meters of water in March and 23.6 million cubic meters in April. Officials expect inflows to rise further in the coming days if new rainfall continues.
As of May 19, the total volume of water stored in the dams had reached 71.2 million cubic meters, bringing overall capacity to 37.6 percent.
