Police carried out coordinated overnight patrols across Cyprus, arresting four people for various offenses as part of ongoing crime‑prevention operations, authorities said Tuesday.
The nationwide effort focused on urban areas considered high‑risk for serious criminal activity. Police said the aim was to deter offenses, maintain public order and increase the sense of security among residents.
During the operation, officers stopped 524 vehicles and checked 675 occupants. They also conducted 27 inspections of business premises to address potential violations.
Traffic enforcement resulted in 309 citations, including 134 for speeding and 12 for driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 107 breath tests were administered, and 32 vehicles were impounded.
Police said the arrests included cases involving possession of knives and illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus.
Authorities added that targeted policing operations will continue daily, with increased patrols and rapid response measures intended to prevent and suppress crime while safeguarding public order.
