Police are investigating another case of online fraud after a man lost €107,000 in cryptocurrency through a bogus job advertisement.

According to a complaint filed with the Nicosia CID, the victim responded to an online ad and followed instructions provided by the scammers, including installing an application on his computer. He later discovered that two of his digital wallets had been emptied.

Investigators are examining whether the installed application also deployed malicious software that allowed the perpetrators to access the wallets and transfer the funds.

Cyprus has seen a steady stream of similar cases in recent months, ranging from fake investment platforms to impersonation scams involving banks, delivery companies and even government agencies. Police have repeatedly warned that criminals are exploiting job ads, courier notifications and “customer‑support” pop‑ups to gain remote access to victims’ devices.

Authorities say the volume of reports now reaches several incidents a week, with losses often running into tens of thousands of euros.
