Cyprus sees rebound in tourist traffic after disruption

Tourist arrivals to Cyprus are beginning to recover after several weeks of disruption, with flights to and from the island largely returning to normal.

Maria Kouroupi, communications manager for Hermes Airports, told state radio that operations have stabilized across most routes, with the exception of some destinations in the Middle East still affected by regional tensions.

Hotel operators also report signs of improvement but acknowledge that the damage to Easter‑period bookings has already been done.

Many are now preparing discounted packages in the hope of attracting Cypriot travelers to offset losses.

The industry is also awaiting government announcements on subsidized holiday schemes, similar to those introduced during the COVID‑19 pandemic, which helped sustain domestic tourism during periods of reduced international travel.

Tourism is one of Cyprus’s most critical economic pillars, accounting for a significant share of GDP and employment.

Even short‑term disruptions can ripple through the wider economy, affecting airlines, hospitality, transport and seasonal workers.

Officials say a steady recovery in arrivals is essential as the island moves into the peak summer season.
