FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Israel and Lebanon have agreed to start negotiations on establishing a land border between the two countries, according to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, as reported by Reuters.
The goal is to create a demarcation line, which refers to a new or temporary border.
While the two countries signed an agreement on a maritime border in 2022, there is still no formal land border between them.
In collaboration with France and the United States, Israel and Lebanon will form working groups to discuss and establish the demarcation line.
In November, Israel and Lebanon signed a ceasefire agreement, under which Israel committed to withdrawing from the southern part of Lebanon that borders Israel.
Although Israeli forces have largely left the area, some still remain.
