President Nikos Christodoulides has said that efforts to restart stalled reunification talks remain active, rejecting suggestions that the process has paused while the U.N. secretary‑general’s personal envoy completes her consultations.

Responding to a reporter’s question, Christodoulides said María Ángela Holguín’s adjusted schedule does not signal a freeze in diplomacy. He noted she will travel to Brussels on July 13 and that all preparatory work is underway for a planned expanded conference where the resumption of talks is expected to be announced.

“Nothing has frozen,” he said. “This major effort continues. We support the secretary‑general’s initiative and hope there will be a response from all sides.”

Christodoulides described the current period as critical, citing ongoing contacts in Cyprus, New York and within the European Union aimed at securing a positive outcome. He reiterated that Cyprus has sought to link potential developments in EU‑Turkey relations with progress on the Cyprus issue, adding that movement is now visible in that direction.
