Drivers in the Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos districts face a series of lane closures and diversions over the coming days and weeks as the Public Works Department carries out road works, it has announced.
In Limassol district, widening work will take place on the Episkopi-Mandria road (E601) at its junction with the road to Agios Therapon, from Monday until Friday October 30. Work will run between 7am and 3.30pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays. One lane will be closed for about 100 metres, with traffic diverted into the adjacent lane using temporary traffic lights.
From October 5 to October 30, retaining walls will be built on sections of the Karvouna-Kyperounta road (E909), between 7am and 3.30pm on weekdays. One lane will be closed for about 100 metres at a time, with alternating traffic controlled by a “stop and go” system.
In Larnaca district, periodic road surface maintenance will be carried out on the Larnaca-Kofinou motorway in the direction of Kofinou, between the Aletriko exit and the Anglisides exit. Work will take place between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday and Tuesday nights.
On Monday, traffic heading from Larnaca towards Kofinou will be diverted through the Aletriko exit onto the old Larnaca-Kofinou road. It will rejoin the motorway at the Anglisides junction, with police present to manage traffic.
On Tuesday, both lanes in that direction will be closed in sections over about 4km. Traffic will be moved to the opposite carriageway, which will operate two-way. The Anglisides junction entrance and exit will remain closed, with traffic diverted via the Aletriko exit onto the old road.
Acacia and other trees will also be cut back and cleared from the verges and slopes along the Larnaca-Nicosia motorway, from the Rizoelia roundabout to the Athienou exit in both directions, including junctions. The work will run from Monday until Wednesday October 7, excluding Sundays and public holidays, between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Part of the hard shoulder will be closed in sections, but traffic on the main lanes will not be affected.
In Paphos district, maintenance work will take place on the Limassol-Paphos motorway (A6) near the Koukli weighbridge in the direction of Paphos. It will run from Monday until Friday between 8am and 4pm, excluding the October 1 public holiday.
On September 28 and 30 and October 2, Limassol-Paphos traffic will be diverted through an opening in the central reservation near the weighbridge and will run two-way on the opposite carriageway for about 3km, returning through an opening near the Timi-Anarita junction. On Tuesday, work will be limited to the slow lane towards the weighbridge, with part of it closed and traffic moved to the fast lane.
Repairs to the asphalt on the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road, near the Mesogi junction, will be carried out on Tuesday between 6am and 5pm in both directions. The road will remain open in both directions with local diversions from 6am to 9am. For the rest of the work, a stretch of about 600 metres will be closed and traffic diverted via the old Mesogi road.
The department apologised for the inconvenience and asked the public to show understanding and patience and to follow temporary road signs and police instructions.
