Almost 20 percent of people in Cyprus were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2025, according to new Eurostat data.
The total number affected reached 167,000, an increase of about 3,000 from the previous year. Women outnumbered men by 18,000, a gap of roughly 3 percent.
Across the European Union, 92.7 million people — nearly 21 percent of the population — were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2025.
The highest rates in the EU were recorded in Bulgaria, followed by Greece and Romania.
