Preparations for Sunday’s parliamentary elections are in full swing, the head of the Election Service, Menelaos Vassiliou, said.
Speaking on state radio, Vassiliou said the first results from small polling stations are expected about half an hour after polls close — around 6:30 p.m. He said the distribution of seats among party lists should become clear between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., while indications of which individual candidates win seats are expected by about 1:30 a.m.
Ballot boxes will be handed over to presiding officers on Friday, and to overseas polling stations a day earlier. Thirteen polling stations will operate abroad: five in Athens, three in Thessaloniki, four in London and — for the first time in a parliamentary election — one in Brussels.
A total of 568,587 voters are registered, including 595 enclaved Greek Cypriots and 859 Turkish Cypriots residing in government‑controlled areas.
