Turkish police detained 43 people Tuesday in coordinated raids across 16 provinces targeting a cryptocurrency network accused of financing the Islamic State group, authorities said.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said the operation followed a six‑month investigation by anti‑terror and financial‑crime units. The network allegedly used 19 cryptocurrency wallet addresses to move about $170,000 between 2021 and 2025, with details shared on extremist Telegram channels disguised as humanitarian aid appeals for families in Syrian detention camps.
Police seized digital evidence and documents and are searching for six additional suspects, officials said.
Türkiye designated Islamic State a terrorist organization in 2013 and has faced multiple attacks by the group. Authorities have since carried out frequent nationwide operations against its financing and recruitment networks.
