FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Iran has confirmed that a fifth round of nuclear talks with the United States will take place in Rome on Friday, though Washington has yet to officially acknowledge the meeting.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi warned Monday that negotiations would collapse if the U.S. demanded Iran halt uranium enrichment, a process the U.S. says could lead to nuclear weapons development. Iran maintains its nuclear program is for civilian use only.
Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran must “do something fast, or something bad will happen.” Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran with bombings and harsh sanctions if a new nuclear deal is not reached.
During his first term, Trump withdrew the U.S. from a multinational nuclear agreement that imposed restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from international sanctions.
