FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Norway has seen a spike in viper bites this month as both humans and snakes head outdoors to enjoy warm weather, national radio reported over the weekend.
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health’s poison information service said it has received approximately 40 inquiries about viper bites in July alone. Officials noted that the overall number of cases in 2025 remains consistent with previous years.
The severity of venom-related symptoms varies depending on age, health, and the location of the bite, as well as the amount of venom injected.
“Fortunately, few patients require intensive care,” said Stein Tosterud, a spokesperson for the institute. “In most cases, little or no venom is injected, and only mild reactions occur.”
Authorities urged the public to exercise caution when walking or hiking in natural areas.
