French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for the latest expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue, calling it a positive step toward rebuilding trust, according to a post on X.
The meeting, held after a similar gathering in Geneva this March, featured new cooperation initiatives announced by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Macron said he encouraged the process to resume negotiations for a “just and lasting solution” to the Cyprus problem, based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation and in line with UN Security Council parameters and EU principles.
France, he concluded, backs the mediation efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy and stands ready to assist the process.
