FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Hotel occupancy in Cyprus’s mountain resorts has reached 80% to 100% this month, with bookings strong through Aug. 24, tourism officials said.
Andreas Mandalas, head of the mountain division of the Cyprus Hotel Association, said about 2,000 visitors arrive weekly, drawn by cooler air and forested landscapes.
Platres has seen a notable influx. “We were pleasantly surprised,” said community leader Dimitris Papatheodotou. “Thousands of vacationers came — more than we’ve seen in years.”
Hoteliers are investing in renovations through state subsidy programs aimed at improving infrastructure and services.
Mandalas told local TV that bookings dropped after funding cuts in 2013 and urged increased support.
Room rates range from €60 to €120 per night for a double with breakfast. Prices are unchanged from last year.
