A total of 580 hikers stranded by severe weather near Mount Everest have been rescued and brought to safety in Tibet, Chinese state media reported Wednesday.

The group was evacuated to the nearby town of Qudang, according to the BBC. A final group of about 10 hikers, accompanied by rescue workers, has not yet reached the town but has arrived at a designated shelter equipped with heating and emergency supplies.

The hikers were trapped at an altitude of more than 4,900 meters following a powerful snowstorm that began Friday night.

Authorities have not reported any fatalities. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
