Cyprus has joined a European Commission pilot initiative aimed at developing a secure and interoperable system for verifying the age of internet users, the country’s Deputy Ministry of Research has announced.
The project seeks to shield minors from harmful digital content, with a particular focus on social media platforms. Authorities say the effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance online safety and ensure age-appropriate access across digital services.
The ministry emphasized that the system will prioritize user privacy while enabling platforms to comply with child protection standards set by the European Union.
