At least 14 people were killed in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours as a powerful winter storm battered the territory, collapsing homes and flooding tents sheltering displaced families, Gaza’s Civil Defense said Friday.
The dead included three children who succumbed to hypothermia. Others were found under rubble in Gaza City and northern areas after heavy rain and strong winds destroyed homes, according to officials.
Rescue teams responded to 13 collapsed or partially collapsed houses, saving 52 people and relocating them to safer areas. More than 15 homes were damaged across the enclave, with search operations still underway.
Health authorities warned the territory “is heading toward catastrophe” as storm‑related casualties continue to rise.
