Iran has seized a foreign oil tanker carrying 6 million liters of smuggled diesel in the Gulf of Oman, state-run IRIB reported Friday.
Judicial officers confiscated the vessel Thursday in Iran’s territorial waters near the southern port city of Jask as part of efforts to combat fuel smuggling networks, according to Mojtaba Ghahremani, chief justice of Hormozgan province.
He said the tanker lacked proper maritime documents and a bill of lading for its cargo, and had turned off all navigation systems.
Authorities reported 18 crew members on board, identified as nationals of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
