A United Airlines flight bound for Tokyo was forced to return to Washington Dulles International Airport on Saturday after one of its engines lost power, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Flight 803, carrying 275 passengers and 15 crew members, landed without injuries, according to the FAA and United Airlines.
Reports said debris from the engine cover sparked a brush fire near the runway. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote on social media that the cover separated and caught fire. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said the blaze was quickly extinguished.
The FAA said it will investigate the incident, which involved a Boeing 777-200.
