The number of vehicles in the north of Cyprus has risen sharply over the past three years, increasing by more than 86,000 since 2022, according to recent figures published by the newspaper Kibris.
The report said the total vehicle count reached 447,592 in 2025, with annual growth averaging 25,000 to 30,000.
The largest jump came last year, when registrations rose by 31,295 — an increase of about 7 percent.
Sales of petrol and diesel vehicles grew by 18 to 21 percent over the period, but the most dramatic expansion was recorded in electric and hybrid models.
Electric vehicles rose from 348 in 2022 to 2,254 in 2025, a surge of roughly 547 percent.
Hybrid vehicles increased even more steeply, climbing from 1,270 to 13,674 — a rise of 977 percent.
The report also noted steady month‑to‑month growth, with 9,593 vehicles added between April and August last year.
Of the vehicles currently on the roads, 300,046 are second‑hand and 122,405 are new.
