Cyprus marked its fifth consecutive appearance at PROWEIN last month with a national pavilion highlighting the island’s native grape varieties and expanding wine industry.

Seven Cypriot wineries took part in the international wine and spirits fair, held in Düsseldorf, Germany.

For the first time, the Cyprus stand hosted guided tastings featuring Commandaria and the indigenous varieties Xynisteri, Maratheftiko and Giannoudi — sessions that drew strong interest from visitors, according to the ministry.

Producers used the exhibition not only to promote their labels but also to hold commercial meetings with existing and potential partners, strengthening their foothold in foreign markets.

The ministry said it continues to support Cypriot wineries in boosting their export reach, noting that participation in major international exhibitions remains a key tool for expanding visibility abroad.

PROWEIN, held annually since 1994, is considered the world’s leading wine trade fair. This year’s event hosted around 31,000 visitors from 105 countries and 3,400 exhibitors from 63 nations.
