Peace in Ukraine can be achieved without outside imposition, the Cypriot president said during an online meeting of leaders from the “Coalition of the Willing,” held to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
In a written statement, his office said President Nikos Christodoulides stressed that Cyprus — a country that has experienced an illegal invasion and remains under military occupation — reaffirms its support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
The presidency added that peace must be based on the United Nations Charter and not on any external pressure.
Cyprus also supports coordinated European efforts to help Ukraine prepare for the coming winter, the statement said.
