Greek police smash burglary ring blamed for 23 house break-ins worth over €179,000

Gang used “operational” burner phones and had a housekeeper among its members; three arrested in Attica raids, five more identified

Greek police have dismantled a criminal organisation accused of carrying out a string of house burglaries across Athens, Kallithea, Neo Faliro and Spata, seizing loot worth more than €179,000.

In an operation carried out on the morning of Thursday 18 September by officers from the Property Crimes Department of the police’s Sub-Directorate for Crimes Against Life and Property, three foreign nationals believed to be members of the group were arrested in locations across Attica. A further five members were identified, of whom two are already in prison and three are reported to be abroad.

Police have opened a case file against the suspects for offences including participation in a criminal organisation, aggravated theft committed jointly and repeatedly with a total benefit of more than €120,000, breaches of drug-related legislation, and money laundering.

According to investigators, the case followed a months-long inquiry drawing on intelligence gathered over an extended period, which found that the defendants had, since at least July 2025, formed a highly active, operationally structured criminal organisation dedicated to carrying out professional, aggravated burglaries of homes across Attica for financial gain.

Police said the group displayed the hallmarks of a well-organised criminal enterprise, with a clear division of roles and responsibilities, organised logistics, and a sustained, long-running pattern of activity. It systematically pursued serious offences for illicit financial gain, investigators said, while also engaging in money laundering and maintaining contacts and activity abroad.
