Cyprus police warn of surge in phishing texts impersonating force

Cyprus has seen a recent surge in scam attempts targeting the public through text messages sent to mobile phones.

According to authorities, the messages are fake and falsely claim to be linked to the police.

The texts include a link that prompts recipients to pay a supposed out-of-court fine.

The goal is to steal personal and banking information and obtain money from victims.

Police are advising the public not to open links sent via SMS, email or messaging apps from unknown or suspicious senders, and not to enter personal or banking details on suspicious websites.
