An association combating domestic violence in Cyprus says it has identified 1,137 domestic violence cases so far this year.
Andri Androniku, an official with the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, told the House human rights and equal opportunities committee that the group received 5,728 calls for help this year, of which 1,317 were related to domestic violence, according to the newspaper Haravgi and other outlets.
Androniku said the existing women’s shelter can no longer meet demand.
She said a new women’s shelter is expected to open in Larnaca in February 2027.
