EU Commission provides €710 million in crisis aid for displaced people in Africa

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Saturday that the EU is releasing 710 million euros to help people affected by crises, natural disasters or conflicts, with the majority going to Africa.

“Conflicts, extreme weather and rising costs of living are disrupting the daily lives of many people around the world,” von der Leyen said in a statement to the UN General Assembly.

The EU will allocate 380 million euros to sub-Saharan Africa to “protect vulnerable migrants, support voluntary return and reintegration, strengthen migration management and address forced displacement,” the statement said, according to Reuters.
