Talks between Cyprus and Israel aimed at reaching an agreement over a shared natural gas deposit between Cyprus’s “Aphrodite” field and Israel’s “Ishai” field will continue in the first half of October.
The talks are being held at a technocratic level, with officials and legal advisers from both countries taking part alongside the companies managing the two fields.
The state run news agency reports that the dispute between the two countries stems from the fact that the gas reservoir beneath Cyprus’s “Aphrodite” field geologically extends into Israel’s “Ishai” field within Israel’s exclusive economic zone.
American company Chevron manages the “Aphrodite” field, located in Block 12 of Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone.
