Turkey’s green energy shift shows no sign of slowing as renewables pass 60% of capacity

Turkey’s total installed electricity capacity reached 126,944 megawatts (MW) by the end of August, with almost two-thirds of it coming from renewable sources, according to the country’s energy ministry.

Renewables accounted for 62.9% of the total, while domestic resources made up 72.1% of installed capacity over the same period, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said.

Solar power capacity rose to 27,914MW, representing 22% of the total. Wind capacity reached 15,434MW, or 12.2%.

Combined, solar and wind now stand at 43,348MW, equivalent to 34.2% of Turkey’s installed capacity.
