FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A powerful heat wave is sweeping across much of Europe, pushing temperatures to extreme highs and prompting red alerts in several countries.

Spain recorded the highest temperatures over the weekend, with the town of El Granado reaching 46 degrees Celsius (114.8°F) on Saturday. In Barcelona, a female street cleaner died of heatstroke shortly after finishing her shift, authorities said.

June is on track to become the hottest month ever recorded in Spain, meteorologists warned.

Red warnings for excessive heat remain in effect across parts of Portugal, Italy, and Croatia.

Forecasts for Monday show highs of 33°C (91°F) in London, 35°C (95°F) in Paris, 37°C (99°F) in both Rome and Lisbon, 38°C (100°F) in Madrid, and 33°C (91°F) in Bern.
