Yellow weather warning issued for isolated thunderstorms across Cyprus

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for isolated heavy thunderstorms across Cyprus, valid from 3.30am until 6pm on Sunday.

Hail is possible during the storms, and winds may change direction and strengthen.

An unstable air mass is affecting the area. Sunday will be cloudy at times, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Winds will be mainly south-easterly to south-westerly, light to moderate, force three to four, and the sea will be slight to moderate. Temperatures will reach around 27C inland and on the coast, and 17C in the higher mountains.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers or a thunderstorm later on the coast. Winds will be variable and light, force three, and the sea calm to slight. Temperatures will fall to 14C inland, around 18C on the coast and 7C in the higher mountains.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, cloud will increase at times, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons, mainly over the mountains and inland areas.

Temperatures will rise slightly through to Wednesday but remain a little below the seasonal average.
