Christodoulides reported that before his departure for Beirut, he’s spoken with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen and conveyed an invitation to Aoun to travel, when he himself decides, to Brussels to meet with the heads of government of the member states.
At the same time, Christodoulides referred to the need to create a roadmap for the development of Lebanon, so that support can be provided by the European Union.
“We want to have a strategic agreement between Lebanon and Brussels as soon as possible,” he said.
Christodoulides also pointed out that during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Nicosia will work with the aim of significantly strengthening the European Union-Lebanon strategic alliance.
Furthermore, during the meeting, issues concerning bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, security, trade and shipping were raised, while emphasis was placed on the common challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and the need to effectively address them, by coordinating actions both at the bilateral level and through the mechanism of the Trilateral Summits, as well as at the level of regional cooperation.
