New US President Donald Trump has ordered more troops to the Mexican border.
According to Trump’s spokesman, the deployment of 1,500 troops to the southern border is part of measures to combat immigration. The additional troops will bring the total number of US troops on the border to 4,000.
Border security and immigration are key themes for Trump in his new term. For example, immediately after taking office, Trump declared a state of emergency on the country’s southern border.
Trump has also suspended the entry of refugees who have already been granted permission to enter the United States. The matter was outlined in an order he signed on Monday.
