On this day in 1960, a series of robberies – which was reportedly ‘making Limassol the islands worst crime spot’ – reached a new high.
The news was splashed on the front page of the Times of Cyprus, which noted, over the last 48 hours, Police revealed that thieves:
Stole a stamp collection worth £210 from the shop of Mr. Kyriakos Potsides.
Stole a car radio from a parked vehicle belonging to Mr. Nicolas Georghiou.
Stole two bicycles from Loizos Zenonos and Linos Konnaris,
Stole a raincoat from the car of Mrs C Willoughby.
Stole a quantity of electric cable from the Amiandos mines.
Stole the masonry tools of Mr Antonakis Moysi.
Also stolen, over the period of August 1959 to February 1960, were 800 gallons of diesel oil from an RAF petrol station at Kolossi.
