North Cyprus: Hit and run driver kills pedestrian

In a tragic incident that occurred around 00:30 near the Çanakkale Reservoir on the Famagusta-Nicosia main road in northern Cyprus, a 32-year-old pedestrian named Buğra Kılıç lost his life.

According to authorities, an unidentified driver, operating a vehicle with an unknown license plate in the left lane heading west, struck Buğra Kılıç, who was walking on the road.

The impact caused Kılıç to be thrown forward and into the left lane.

Shortly after, Berkcan Lisani, a 28-year-old driver, traveling in the same direction in the left lane, struck Kılıç with his vehicle.

Lisani’s vehicle subsequently veered off to the left side of the road and came to a stop.

Latest on this case:

Fatality:  Buğra Kılıç died at the scene of the accident.
Unknown Driver: The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene, leaving no identification. The license plate of this vehicle remains undetermined.
Arrest: Berkcan Lisani has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

The authorities are actively investigating the accident and searching for the unidentified driver. It is understood cameras are now being checked.

Second hit and run in the region this week

Just a few days ago, in the Republic of Cyprus, a drunk driver hit a pedestrian in Larnaca.

The 62-year-old pedestrian was being treated in hospital for serious fractures, the Haravgi newspaper reported.

The newspaper reported that the 70-year-old driver left the scene after hitting the pedestrian, but was later identified and arrested.
