The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, has participated via video conference in the extraordinary Informal Summit of the European People’s Party, which had as its main topic of discussion the developments in Ukraine.
In a written statement, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stressed that in his intervention, Christodoulides stated that the European Union must operate with unity on the issue of Ukraine.
At the same time, he indicated that the Cyprus, as a semi-occupied state, believes that any peace agreement reached for Ukraine should respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country.
In his intervention, the President reiterated the need to strengthen the strategic autonomy and defense capabilities of the European Union.
