FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has raised alarms over a near-total collapse of life in the Gaza Strip.
Spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna described the situation as the worst since the war began, citing the breakdown of water and sanitation systems and severe food shortages.
He called for an urgent truce and the immediate entry of aid trucks.
The Hamas-run Gaza media office condemned the closure of crossings as a “major humanitarian crime” and a violation of international law. It reported that 15,000 aid trucks and 1,250 fuel trucks, expected since March, have been blocked. Hamas held Israel responsible for the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Following the conclusion of the first phase of the Gaza peace deal, Israel halted the entry of goods into Gaza on March 2. Renewed Israeli military operations began on March 18 after Hamas rejected a U.S.-proposed extension of the truce. Hamas warned that Israeli shelling endangers the lives of Israeli hostages, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of undermining the ceasefire agreement.
Since March 18, Israeli attacks have killed at least 830 Palestinians and injured 1,787, according to Gaza-based health authorities. The international community faces mounting pressure to address the escalating crisis.
