FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take a clear stance on threats against Iran’s nuclear facilities, following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a phone call with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to cooperation with the agency but warned that his country would take necessary measures to safeguard its nuclear program amid ongoing threats.

He also updated Grossi on recent diplomatic efforts regarding Iran’s nuclear activities.

Grossi expressed willingness to mediate and proposed a visit to Iran, which Araghchi accepted.

Trump, in an interview Sunday, threatened “unprecedented military strikes” on Iran if it refused to negotiate over its nuclear program.

He claimed U.S. and Iranian officials were in communication, though details were not disclosed. Tehran rejected direct talks but left the door open for indirect negotiations.
