FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Hassan Al-Dajeh, a professor of strategic studies at Jordan’s Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, criticized the United States’ tariff hikes, calling them counterproductive in the long term.
In an interview with Xinhua, he said the policy marks a shift away from decades of liberal economic practices and could trigger an economic recession if sustained.
Al-Dajeh warned of rising inflation and declining growth, adding that American consumers will bear the brunt of higher-priced goods.
He noted that while domestic factory relocation might briefly boost the economy, it would ultimately weaken purchasing power and slow growth.
Using cars as an example, Al-Dajeh said a Hyundai manufactured in South Korea costs $24,000 in the U.S., but domestic production could push the price to $40,000—beyond what many can afford. He cautioned that such financial pressures could lower the standard of living for Americans.
