Authorities have confiscated nine tons of diesel and other fuel products found in a truck arriving from the Turkish‑occupied areas of Cyprus.
According to the Customs Department, on May 6 officers from the MMAD Green Line Anti‑Poaching and Surveillance Unit alerted customs officials after locating a truck driven by a 54‑year‑old Greek Cypriot exiting the buffer zone in the Dali area.
A metal fuel tank with a capacity of nine tons was mounted on the truck bed.
Customs officers who arrived at the scene found the tank filled with nine tons of diesel of occupied‑area origin. Inside the cabin they also discovered four 20‑liter plastic containers of petrol (80 liters total) and three 18‑liter metal containers of engine oil (54 liters total).
The driver was arrested for in‑flagrante offenses, and both the fuel and the truck used to transport it were seized.
During questioning, he admitted the offenses. He was later released after authorities accepted his request for an out‑of‑court settlement, paying €40,000 in total and receiving the vehicle back.
