FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A British family is struggling to bring a critically ill man home from Cyprus for urgent medical care, facing a bill of more than €48,000.

Ian Wright, 47, from Cramlington, Northumberland, fell seriously ill while watching a Newcastle United match during a holiday in Tala, near Paphos. Initially thought to be food poisoning, his condition deteriorated, leading to a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis with necrosis. He has been receiving intensive care at Nicosia General Hospital since May 30, including dialysis and multi-organ support.

His mother, Monica Muckle, 67, rushed to Cyprus and has been by his side since May 22, desperate to get him back to the U.K. The family has been quoted €48,000 for a private medical flight staffed by specialists to ensure his safe return.

According to Wales Online, their plight prompted Sarah’s friend and colleague, Lucy Wareing, to initiate a GoFundMe campaign.
