Several Canadian provinces, including Ontario and Quebec, are removing alcoholic beverages from the United States from their shelves as part of a broad reaction to President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
“This will be a major blow to American manufacturers,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford when he announced the measure.
Nearly one billion Canadian dollars worth of alcoholic beverages from the United States are sold annually through the alcohol monopoly LCBO. This includes beer, bourbon whiskey, and wine from California.
In Quebec, authorities have instructed the alcohol distributor to stop selling U.S. alcohol to stores, bars, and restaurants.
