The contractor responsible for building the new Archaeological Museum in Nicosia has requested a 500-day extension, pushing the project well beyond its original completion date of June 9, 2026.
During a parliamentary Transport Committee meeting, officials acknowledged that no one could confidently predict when the project would be finished. According to the Audit Office, approximately €30 million worth of work has been completed so far, out of a total budget of €121 million.
A representative from the Audit Office warned that the contractor is likely to request substantial additional funding.
Separately, the Department of Antiquities has asked for an 18-month period to transfer ancient artifacts into the building once construction is complete.
