FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus has reiterated its unwavering solidarity with Ukraine following Russia’s attack on Sumy on Palm Sunday.
In a statement on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “shock and horror” at the strike and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We express our steadfast solidarity with Ukraine. Such attacks make the need for a ceasefire ever more urgent,” the ministry said.
The ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine is among the key topics being discussed at the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, where Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos is participating.
The Council’s agenda also includes discussions on the Middle East, EU-Africa relations, Armenia-Azerbaijan developments, and the Western Balkans. Following the meeting, Kompos will take part in the European Union-Palestine High-Level Dialogue and the Intergovernmental Summit with Albania regarding its EU accession negotiations.
