FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The OPAP Limassol Marathon concluded Sunday with more than 17,000 participants from 70 countries competing across four individual routes.
The marathon began with over 1,000 runners tackling the 42-kilometer course along the scenic seaside route. Alexandros Davos, CEO of OPAP Cyprus, and Yiannis Armeftis, the Mayor of Limassol, officially launched the race.
“These events are key sporting and cultural milestones,” Davos said, emphasizing the strong symbolism of the marathon’s historical dimension, which he said “fills us with pride for our participation.”
Giorgos Tofi of the “Evagoras” Gymnastics Club claimed victory in the men’s category at the OPAP Limassol Marathon, finishing with an impressive time of 02:27:50. The Cypriot runner secured the top spot on home soil, marking a proud moment for local supporters.
Runners from the United Kingdom completed the podium, with Nick Bester taking second place at 02:28:54 and Michael Taylor finishing third with a time of 02:30:27.
