FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cypriot Parliament has passed two key bills addressing workplace violence and harassment.
The “On Violence and Harassment in the Workplace Law of 2024” and its complementary amendment to the Inspection Service Law were approved with 25 and 26 votes in favor, respectively, and one vote against in both cases.
The legislation aims to align with the International Labor Organization’s 2019 Convention, introducing measures such as a code of conduct, staff training, and protections for employees, including those on business trips.
Violations, including harassment and obstructing complaints, are punishable by up to two years in prison or a €5,000 fine.
MPs emphasized the importance of cultural change and effective implementation to ensure worker dignity and mental health.
