Cyprus could begin producing natural gas for export as early as 2028, Energy Minister Michalis Damianos said in an interview with Reuters.
Speaking about development plans for the offshore Kronos field, Damianos said Cyprus may have commercially available gas by 2028.
He added that the project is expected to rely on existing infrastructure in Egypt, where the gas would be processed and liquefied before being shipped mainly to European markets.
The minister said the exploitation of East Mediterranean reserves remains a priority for the European Union, particularly in light of ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
