FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The European Union is enforcing stringent regulations on the trade of seven key products linked to deforestation and forest degradation, including cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, and wood, as well as derivative products like chocolate, furniture, and paper.
Businesses involved in the import, export, and trade of these products must comply with the new rules to avoid legal and financial risks.
Key Compliance Points:
- Zero Deforestation: Products should not originate from deforested areas.
- Legality: Production must adhere to the laws of the origin country, covering aspects like land ownership and labor rights.
- Due Diligence Statement: A detailed statement including all information and evidence confirming compliance with the regulations.
To help businesses understand and prepare for these obligations, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), in collaboration with the Department of Forests, is organizing an informative seminar.
